Running

I have kind of, sort of, started running... I kind of, sort of, LIKE it.  This is a first for sure.  I only like running on a treadmill, with air condition (wuss), with my ipod blaring! SO my question is this?  What SONG makes you just want to run like a wild fire?  Today, I replayed Bruno Mars "You're Amazing..." about 5 times in a row.  I also like Fine Young Cannibals, "She Drives Me Crazy".Suggestions Please.

Fishing

I have been fishing a lot lately- Literally and Figuratively.  I have learned that with my business, if you don't "fish" then you are certainly not going to catch anything.  What do I mean by this?  I have been"casting"my lines, in lots of different "waters".  It might be a pitch for an event in my store, and if one of these "bites", then you will be biting something GOOD. It might be taking on a new role like being in charge of PWAF Bird Dog Bash, which promises to be amazing for sure.  It might be spending an entire afternoon with a travel writer, which I did last week, as you might have seen me in your store.  Basically, if you don't cast, then you can't catch!  If you don't like what you "catch" then you can throw it back in, and start over.  I really love fishing and I look forward to doing a lot of it this coming weekend.  This time literally. Have a great week, Nan

I'm looking forward to a lot of fishing this summer...
Happy Monday and I hope y'all had a Happy Momday yesterday! I did, as I did absolutely nothing, except for what I wanted to do. A nap was involved. This week and next will be busy at the store, as we wind down the school year.  We sell lots of gift certificates for teachers this time of year, which they love by the way.  Also, personally it is busy on the home front, with the boy's end of the year school activities, baseball play-offs, and getting ready for camp.  Usually Summer at the Firefly slows down a clip, which is nice... It is a time of reflection, planning, and tackling projects that we don't have time for the rest of the year.  I am really excited about what is in the "works" currently.  I have made two great additions to Firefly in the last couple of weeks. One that you will visibly see is Mary Cameron.  She is a recent grad, in jewelry design from SCAD.  I knew the minute I saw a bracelet that she had made- a BACON cuff, that we were a good fit.  It was confirmed Sunday morning, when I went to retrieve my local eggs from the fridge at Firefly, and she had "DONE" the window, that I beamed with delight!  The second addition, is a behind the scenes GUY, that I am equally loving.  He is bridging all of my social media together and setting up a newsletter, that I hope y'all will ALL join as soon as it is ready!  Spring at Firefly was great for us, so I hope SUMMER will be more of the same, and I thank you, the customer, for coming in time and time again.  Have a great week, Nan

Friday at Firefly

Darling stationary that has been added to our website, under Southern Sampler.

Hello Everybody!  I hope everyone is feeling a little Spring in their step.  I know I am, as we have been wearing out our Front Porch with neighbors, children running rampant, and late night conversations. Our windows are flung open in the evenings and our cat, Radley loves hopping in and out, and making lots of "biscuits" in our bed.  Purrfect.  The store has had a great turn out in the trunk show(TWO MORE DAYS), especially in the little girl's clothing, as it really is super sweet. OUR jewelry SALE is going well too!  As promised, we are adding to it everyday, so stop by often.  Go HERE to see extensive photographs of THE Thomasville Wedding that is currently featured in Garden and Gun, and the OFFICIAL  stamp for my "styling" business, whether it be a dinner party, your house, store, WEDDING, birthday party! I am eager to design and execute all the details.   We have lots of fun projects in the works, that I can't wait to share with you.  WAHOO! Have a great weekend, Nan

New Website

I am excited to finally announce our NEW website for Firefly!  With that being said, I have so much more to add as far as product, but that is exciting for me too. As the store has a PLETHORA of PRODUCT, I am putting together best-sellers, unique offerings, and that just requires a little more ol'chicken scratch!  Unlike the OLD site,  I now have the capabilities to "NanMan" this myself, which just makes me so HAPPY!  What I also like about the new site is that it is all encompassing, featuring  some of my favorites things, like my Blog, Pinterest, Events and Store Happenings.  I feel like it is a very well rounded representation of me and Firefly.  Even if you have never been in, I think you can peruse this site, and get a gist of what we are about!  In the weeks to come,TWO NEW Collections will be added, so come back and come back often.  As my wish for this site, is that it is constantly evolving and growing, as my store does EVERY DAY!

A BIG thanks to my sister-in-law Haile and Garland for making this happen, Nan

Magic Happened Here

My handsome brother, Ben and his equally handsome friend, John and those amazing Skyline Tents!

Well, I have some GLAD NEWS to report from Thomasville, GA. The wedding I worked on so feverishly this past Fall, is in the current April/May Issue of Garden and Gun.  This is the first wedding that Garden and Gun has ever featured, and I am so proud, pleased, and appreciative.  I also realized that I couldn't share this "GLAD NEWS", without sharing my deepest gratitude to the talented folks that made this happen.  Everything about this particular Wedding, I feel was already cosmically decided, and it just took execution by very talented, hard working professionals. I was just the conductor, so to speak.  It was really something to conduct, and again the "players" were amazing and most importantly, humble.  There were no EGOS present here, and that is why this weekend,in late October was so MAGICAL.  It  takes a village to "raise a wedding" and I thank you all for making this day SHINE.  Megan and Nico are so appreciative of everyone's contribution,  that I can't even begin to express.  A day, truly does not go by, that Megan doesn't reflect on that weekend with a swell of love and gratitude in her heart. I thank you. I thank you. I thank you. WE DID IT!

The "Village" People listed below:

Disclosure: I blame Ram for the Ramblin' BECAUSE

If  Ram Singletary(Singletary's) had said,"NO" then this would be a very short post, as my role of wedding planner would have started and ended on the same day. Floral Design is just the beginning of what he brings to the table.  Needless to say, this was my first phone call... Windee Willoughby, who turned the dormant garden into an Impressionist Painting, Hector Beltran, my painter for life,  Sweet Mark(Ram's right arm and left leg) and his darling son for "shooting" 300 shotgun shells, pink at that, and then reloading them with sand, Jackie Ellis(my second phone call) for executing design concepts to delivering sausage biscuits, gift crates, and for tackling the logistics of transportation, Charles for being steadfast and jumping in, Daryl House(good as gold), who transported heavy objects for the wedding and then with his fantastic ensemble, transported our guests all over Thomas Co. and then some, PSG(Production Support Group), truly the pinnacle of lighting and sound,Brenda /Andrew Tents for putting up with my constant revisions, Elizabeth/ Beachview Tents for coming through with last minute linens and beautiful furniture, Andrew/D.C. Rentals for holding my hand, Liz and Miles, at Skyline Tent who erected THE most amazing tents, and  was as easy on the eyes, as he was to work with, Lauren Johnson(rock star), Hugh Acheson's right arm and left leg, who had everything in Apple Pie order, Hugh Acheson and Ryan Smith(obvious rock stars and so cool), for providing a flawless, gorgeous meal, Hugh's Team/Staff (especially Ryan, Nol, Catie, and Amy), and our local staff, that made the delivering of food to 300 people look like a walk in park, Carol, Mary Lane, and Lisa( babysitters extraordinaire), Katie Wharton (breath-taking cakes), Shawn/ Christian Oth Studio( darling and a pleasure), Stephanic/ Coral and Tusk, Katrina Lewis and her singing ladies, Debbie and Sarah, Shanna Murray(her decals throughout the wedding were amazing-see Deer with sign), Mae Mae, Betsy Dunlap, Leslie, Katie at Skyline, and I know I am forgetting someone(sorry), my husband for enduring me, and lastly, Howell, Sharon, Megan for entrusting me.  Your family means so much to me, and I did not want to disappoint, so thank you again for the opportunity and the honor.  It was truly a magical weekend, Nan

P.S. I tried to link everybody that I could, but if you need additional info, please contact me, I will be glad to help.  If you need my services or curious about my store, Firefly, go here to read more about that, as I would love to design an event for you!  This is a new website, and NEW collections will be added in the weeks to come.

News, but not THAT NEWS...

I am still in a holding pattern on MY news, but I do have some other fun reports that need your attention.
At the Store, we have a sign-up sheet for a special EASTER TREAT. The Thomasville Townie, Bunny
Byrne is making beautiful Macaroons for this Easter.  Here is the low down.  Come in and sign up for a box of 6($10.00)or a box of 12($18.00), in a melange of flavors including Satsuma, Lavender, Raspberry Lemon, Pistachio, and Raspberry. Bring a check or cash, as Firefly is not profitting at all, as I just want to share the LOVE. The Easter "Bunny" will deliver boxes to Firefly on Friday, April 6th for pick-up. They are boxed beautifully for gift giving.  They are also delicious and incredibly beautiful.  I, personally, will be putting them on my Easter Table, in a little man made bird's nest( available at Firefly) at each person's place setting. I love Easter!

Alright, now just a general FYI, on my family's list of MUST- DO's, is to see an amazing band play at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre.  Yes, of course I have a band in my mind, and GUESS who it is?  Michael Franti!  Guess who is going to be at Red Rocks Amphitheatre? Michael Franti and Spearhead! Guess who can't go?  We can't!  The boys will be at an awesome camp for three weeks, and I will be doing the Tango in Buenos Aires, and hopefully my husband will be fishing on the Gulf somewhere. SO, someone I know, needs to gather up their children and plan a trip around this concert, and report back to me.  Here is the Link. Tickets go on sale March 24th.  There are some amazing concerts there this Summer like Steve Martin, Blues Traveler(love), and James Taylor.  However, with kid's and to really blow their minds, with love, laughter, and dancing-  Michael Franti is the TICKET!

It is Monday...

I took this last April in Sonoma, California.
It is Monday...which means tomorrow is TUESDAY, which means I am excited about SOMETHING BIG! What if it is not  here on Tuesday?  Then it will be Wednesday, or Thursday, or Friday...Yes, I am freaking out in EXCITEMENT and my face is breaking out too, which is not so exciting. I can't wait to share with you!   Wahoo, Nan

Hello Hello

In General, I am just checking in to let you know what is going on at The Fly and in my world...

In  the store, we can't seem to catch up with the boxes of NEW STUFF coming in...I ,apparently, lost my mind in NYC.  Also we are just plain busy, which is great too.  Our EASTER GOODIES are hoppin' out, as fast as they are hoppin' in.  We have several brides registered, and babies- to-be too.  I am also working hard on a new website, that I looking forward to sharing with all of you very soon.   You can follow me on Pinterest .  Here is the link today, but the clever logo above will stay for your Pinterest pushing!  I am really digging Pinterest right now, and I have to limit myself time wise.  It is a fun, creative outlet, and surprisingly, has really motivated me to finish little odds and ends around the house, that otherwise I may have never gotten around too.  Also, some of you may or may not know that I wore a different hat this past Fall.  I did my first Wedding, as in Wedding Planner!  It was amazing and crazy and crazy beautiful.  I would love to do more of it, regardless, of size.  In fact, smaller would be better!  Anyway, stay tuned for more on that front.  Whispers and fingers crossed, this wedding that I just mentioned, will be featured in my FAVORITE magazine soon!  Have a great day on this gorgeous day, Nan

Anthology

Do you miss DOMINO.  Are you still scratching your head on that one?  I am. I am still getting the"replacement" magazine and it makes me growl almost every time. GRRrrrrr. Most of the time, it never even comes out of the packaging, just straight to the recycling. There are a lot of great online magazines, but at the end of the day, I like to hold, feel, turn, and revisit over and over again. Well, I think I have the cure to your Domino Blues.  Yes, I just got back from NOLA- inspiring, and yes, that is another day and another dollar POST for sure.  Well LOOKY LOOKY no more, FIREFLY is the official PICK UP POST for a quarterly magazine called Anthology.  Each magazine has a theme, for example,  the Fall 2011 was Going Global.  I am eagerly awaiting the Winter Issue(due any day now), but they did send a dozen of the last issue, just mentioned.  It is good stuff, beautifully done, and you will savor every page. I love the size too( Yummy and Perfect). This quarterly magazine will permanently reside in my home and I hope yours too.  Come BUY at Firefly, so that we can keep this exciting magazine in Thomasville, and the only place in our State too!  $12 an issue.  Happy Reading, Nan

ABOUT

Anthology Magazine Images of Interiors and People
The Story Behind Anthology
In early 2010, over brunch at a San Francisco café, Meg Mateo Ilasco and I were lamenting the demise of several notable magazines. As writers—Meg has a half-dozen books under her belt, and I pen a weekly column for a daily newspaper—we have a shared appreciation for the print medium. Although we both spend a good amount of time online, we just didn’t accept the theory that readers no longer want to hold something tangible in their hands.
During our conversation, we started jotting down notes on what our ideal publication would be. We realized that we actually had a mutual vision: a shelter and lifestyle magazine that takes a narrative approach to its coverage of home decor, travel, design, entertaining, and culture.
Fast forward to the fall, when Anthology officially launched. Each issue is conceived as a collection of stories, all centered around a theme. The first issue focused on “The Slow Life” and included articles about an artist’s cozy Berkeley abode; a Chicago designer who handcrafts beautiful furniture; the joys of a modern-day cutting garden; and a fun, not fussy, dinner party. The second issue explored “Where the Past Meets the Present,” while the third celebrates the notion that “Life is a Party.”
Anthology is packed with thoughtful columns and features, stunning photography, and compelling graphics—totaling more than 120 pages. Since we are a reader-supported publication with a limited number of ads, there’s plenty of content to enjoy. The magazine is printed on matte finish stock that is eco-friendly (FSC-certified). Measuring 7.5-by-10 inches, it’s the perfect size for tucking into a bag and taking to the coffee shop, or on the bus or plane. Of course, we also encourage you to curl up with Anthology in the comfort of your own home, in your favorite reading chair.
The magazine relies on the talents and hard work of dozens of freelancers. Officially, Meg is the creative director while I’m the editor in chief. But the reality is, we wear many different hats. (Don’t be surprised if one of us responds to your customer service inquiry.) By buying or subscribing toAnthology, you’re not only supporting an independent magazine, you’re confirming what we’ve believed all along: print is not dead.

Drum Roll Please...

Join Firefly and Amy Flurry of Recipe for Press, Thursday, February the 2nd. This is what Amy is all about:

OVERVIEW:
Recipe for Press, pitch your story like the pros & create a buzz represents my irrepressible desire to share with small business owners, budding designers, musicians, chefs, and family brands how to get press and create fruitful relationships with editors and media influencers. In a nutshell, Recipe for Press is like getting to spend the weekend with a seasoned editor talking about your brand and learning what it takes to reach a larger audience through constant press coverage. You can also expect to find lush illustrations and photography and Q&A’s featuring successful entrepreneurs who keep their marketing in-house including designer Amy Butler, chef Hugh Acheson, potter and blogger Rebecca Wood and indie market juggernaut and UNIQUE LA founder, Sonja Rasula.  This isn’t just good medicine, it’s a book that you’ll want to fall in to.
I’ve seen plenty of great products with passionate people behind them fail, whereas others with so-so services receive the bulk of the attention.  The difference isn’t in luck; the difference is what you will find in this book and I couldn’t be more excited about getting it into the hands of the people who need it most.
Please take a minute to visit the website and my blog and join me on Twitter (@Recipeforpress). The information I post on each is really companion material to the book, news your brand needs to know!
$23.95

Cost $125.  These sessions will take place in a private office space, in the same building( Haile's building, Studio 209, the Coke Cola Bottling building, whatever you call it).  This is a great opportunity, and I can think of so many people, who could benefit from this, including myself.  So call the store, and I will call you back with a time, as I am leaving in the morning for business.  It will be first come, first serve though, and I will be all "Atticus" about that.  I encourage all fellow small businesses to come too, as we are all in this boat together.

The book ,Recipe for Press is NOW in Firefly, so come pick up a copy and get inspired...I got it personally, in early December and just had a small fit, and then I got out my highlighter, and then I begged her to come, and Voila!
